MISSISSIPPI SQUARES HALFWAY DANCE JAN 2012

The Mississippi Squares outdid themselves with another terrific Halfway Dance.  Once again the Village Squares had the largest group presentation at the dance.  This is the one dance when the “New Dancers” from all the clubs  get the opportunity to “Strut-their-Stuff” for all the world to see, and a darn good job they did too.  As usual the feast at the end of the evening was delicious.  One of our own, Yvonne Barnett even won one of the Share The Wealth prizes.  Congratulations once again on an outstanding  job Mississippi Squares !!

HALLOWEEN 2011

Once again we had a terrific time at our Halloween Party.  It was great to see that more people are participating all the time.  The New Kids  all seemed to enjoy themselves as did the oldtimers that have been doing this for many years.   There seemed to be a few more people in full costume this year rather than opting for a hat only.  Good job everyone.  Enjoy the Slideshow…..

Delicious Food and Terrific Dancing made for an evening full of fun and friendship.
Just because the club is off for the summer doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t be dancing -no no-
the summer is filled with dances throughout the region as well as workshops all summer long.
Everybody have a safe and wonderful summer, bring along as many new dancerS
as you can, and we will see you on the dance floor at our “Open House(s)” Sept 7th and 14th at the Roy Hobbs Community Centre corner of Champlain St
and Larch Cres in Orleans.

Once again we had another successful Bunny Hop.  It seems that attendance is down once
again at all the major regional dances but that didn’t deter those who attended.  Everyone
had a wonderful time dancing to the music of Paul Adams, Brian Crawford and Kieth Hubbard.
All the club members are to be thanked and congratulated for a job well done.

GRADUATION 2011

Grad Night is always a fun time at our club.  It gives Paul a chance to see what the New Dancers
have learned, a chance for the New Dancers to  ”Strut-Their-Stuff” and a chance for us old timers
to sit back and enjoy the proceedings.  Although we only had four couples graduate this year,
it turned out they are one of the happiest groups that have ever graduated.  All evening long
the smiles on their faces tells me they were very glad to be here.
After the Swearing In Ceremony, the were presented with their diplomas and club badges.
Bruce and Linda Warner, representing EOSARDA were on hand to welcome the New Dancers
to the Square Dance World and present them with their EOSARDA Pins.
Then we danced the evening away.

This year’s celebrations were a double treat.  Our regular dance night this year was on
Wednesday, 16th of March, the day before St. Patrick’s Day and we were fortunate to
have guests for the evening to help us celebrate.  A bus load of “Old Time Dancers” from
Maniwaki were invited to attend and helped us mark the occasion.  They  found us via
this website and contacted Paul and Judy indicating they were interested in finding
out about Modern Square Dancing and so were invited to join us. 
It turned out to be a wonderful evening of meeting new people, dancing and feasting.

The next day was St Patrick’s Day and a small group of club members visited and entertined
at the Queenswood Villa Senior’s Residence.  We have been performing there for a
number of years to the delight of the residents and the club members as well.  A number
of the seniors joined us in a dance and by the looks on their faces, had a wonderful time.

SLEIGH RIDE 2011

The Sleigh Ride at the Amyot Estates in Gatineau this year was another great success.  People started arriving shortly after 2 PM and in a short time the team was harnessed and we were underway.  While the rides were taking place a group of ”Musicians” led the afternoon sing along and sang every C & W song ever written (I think).
While the horses were being fed and bedded down outside, the set up was taking place inside for our Pot Luck Dinner.  This always seems to be a big hit with everyone because the variety of food is always amazing and delicious.
Thanks again to everyone who came out and especially to our hosts – Moe and Kathy.  This has become one of our premier events of the dancing season that is enjoyed by everyone.

TROPICANA 2011

Costa Rica, in Central America, was the destination for the 2011
Tropicana Night thanks to the miracle of Virtual Reality.  The
colourful dress of or members helped to stimulate our imagination
of  Sun,  Sea and warm tropical breezes.  Everyone had a wonderful
time at this beautiful resort I created in this Virtual World of the
Tropics.  It helped to supress, for a little while,  the winter Cabin Fever
we experience this time of year here in Ottawa.
Thanks to everyone for participating and all are looking forward to
where we will travel to next year on “Tropicana 2012″.
